Good morning everyone. We have had a request on whether we would allow a Cancube Storage Unit as an accessory building in a residential district.

Our current Land Use Bylaw does not allow for seacans to be used as accessory buildings in any of the residential districts. These new storage units are not seacans but do have similar characteristics, although peaked roofs may be added to take away from the “box” format. Below is the link to this product for it’s specifications.

So my question would be, have any other Development Officer’s had this type of application come across their desk, to be used in a residential area for an accessory structure/shed, and if so, how did you consider this product in the application? Would you consider this to be like a stick build structure with siding, a plastic Cosco type, or more like a rectangle Seacan box type structure.

I thank you in advance for any input you can provide!
