We’ve got an application for a waste materials “recycling center” in the County that we fear may be a guise for a dumping site. We’ve heard from our landfill operators that take Calg trash, it’s happened in Calg that unused industrial sites started as recycling centers and ended up just being places to dump – and thus leave – trash not hauled to landfills.

We’re looking at a lengthy list of conditions as dumping area containment, lightweight materials sorted indoors, litter containment netting, privacy fence screening, and no site storage of recyclables beyond 30 (or 45) days, unsold recyclables to be removed to landfill within timeframe, etc…

has anyone dealt with a similar project or application – in either an urban or rural setting? and outcomes of either positive or negative?

We don’t mind the recycling industry, but to protect the neighbouring properties (and view as it’s beside a hwy) we also don’t want to have an illegal dump set up that we’ll be shutting down in 4 months and hauling away to remediate.
Feedback is most welcome
Thanks in advance
