I’m looking to see what other municipalities have for Secondary Dwelling provisions in their LUBs. On agricultural parcels we currently allow up to 3 dwelling units; each of which much meet certain criteria (allows family to live in close proximity to one another, allows to assist with the farming operation, etc.). However, in order to consider a secondary dwelling (discretionary use), the parcel must be at least 60-acres in size. This has worked for years with no major requirement for amending our LUB. However, one of our Councillors thinks that we’re being too restrictive to people looking to move onto the same parcel of land for family, close friends, etc. So I’d like to compare how other municipalities are treating multiple dwelling units on the same parcel of land. Do you allow for it? How many dwelling units do you consider? Do you have a minimum parcel size required for considering more than one dwelling unit?
